Geocaching Poland

Geocaching is an outdoor sport, a pleasurable day outing, and a high-tech treasure hunt rolled into one. Geocaching is relatively new to Poland, but is a great way to discover more about Poland. Thus far few Polish caches exist. This is how geocaching works:

Someone makes a cache in a discrete and environmentally friendly location. The location of the cache must be accessible to other geocachers and the coordinates of the cache are posted on a geocaching website. Other intrepid geocachers use their handheld GPS units to follow clues or to make their way to the final hidden location. Having found the cache, the geocacher makes a note in the log book, trades a small item for something left by a previous visitor, and possibly posts his experience on the website. A geocacher is always careful to return the cache to the exact position in which it was found.

The cache typically consists of a waterproof container with a logbook, and pen. Polish caches contain a few trinkets or unique items so that geocachers can have a remembrance of their journey. A visiting geocacher to Poland normally adds her own curio to the cache for the next explorer who successfully finds the hidden treasure. This way, the caches offer a wide variety of surprises and their contents are always changing. For most the biggest reward of geocaching is the thrill of the search and the discovery of a place that they have never been.
